Movie director Zack Passero has recruited Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen to create the score and soundtrack for the upcoming Fever Dreams horror film “Wicked Lake,” which is tentatively scheduled for release next spring. Passero previously directed Ministry’s 2006 video for “Lies Lies Lies” and Revolting Cocks’ clip for “Fire Engine,” as well as the movies “The Big, Weird Normal” and “Motel: Glimpse.”
“Wicked Lake” starts shooting September 9 in Las Cruses, New Mexico and, while Passero will film on weekdays, he plans to work with Jourgensen on weekends. “This is perfect for me because Zach is one of my best friends and we are going to make this something really special musically,” Jourgensen says. “I’ve been getting offers to work on horror films for years, and I’ve always turned them down because I was too busy or things just weren’t right. Usually, you don’t even meet the director, you just mail in some songs. This is gonna be totally hands-on and totally cool.”
Like most horror movies, the score for “Wicked Lake” will feature eerie music and weird sound effects, but, says Jourgensen, it will also include lots of grinding guitars and pounding beats. “I’m gonna make it heavy as f---,” he said, adding that in addition to his original songs, the score will feature artists from his label 13th Planet records, which is currently home to Revolting Cocks, Prong and a project by Fear Factory singer Burton Bell and keyboardist John Bechdel called Ascension of the Watchers. “I would be remiss not to include things from my label,” he said, adding that 13th Planet will release the soundtrack.
Casting for “Wicked Lake” has not been announced, but Jourgensen says the movie will feature “one of the women from ‘Hostel.’” The screenplay was written by Adam Rockoff, who also penned the novella “Going to Pieces: the Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film,” and will be produced by Chris Sivertson (“The Lost,” “I Know Who Killed Me”).
Jourgensen describes the plot of “Wicked Lake” as “‘Thelma and Louise’ on steroids – a total female empowerment movie.” A promotional poster for the film depicts a lightning filled sky illuminating a taloned hand emerging from a body of water. Near the top of the ad is a line of copy: “Life’s a witch… and then you die.”
“It’s about four kind of witchy, vampirey, faster pussycats driving around in a muscle car cutting guys d---s off,” Jourgensen says. “It’s ‘Thelma and Louise’ meets Steroids in a sense -- a total female empowerment movie. All the males are made out to be stumbling dumb f--s that jerk themselves off all the time and wanna rape chicks. And these chicks get their revenge, and then some.”
Jourgensen, himself, will play one of the bumbling males -- an art teacher who hides pornography inside his art books. “I’m only in one scene and my character basically sits there and jerks himself, so it’s not much of a stretch for me,” he says.
