If Philip Anselmo has convinced you that Down are the greatest metal band working today, check out this video for “On March the Saints” and let us know if you think they’re making the greatest metal videos of any band working today. Watch it again on Saturday’s Headbangers Ball on MTV2. Check out more riffage from Anselmo in the boxing ring later today. Also, give this killer Down Q&A a read.

  1. So glad to c REX! Phil, love you and always will no matter what. Some people just don’t get it that %@~@ happens and things change.I went to see Suicidal& Exodus quite a few years back with some group I never heard of called Pantera at Painters Mill in Baltimore.I left that show with some friends, two of which are gone now, wondering(who played after Pantera?)I rubbed you on your bald head in the front row at Hammerjacks during Cowboys from Hell at the next show, I started that fire up in the lawn at Merriweather Post when you played with Biohazzard and Sepultura and the lightening was flashing and I know you remember these things because you aknowledged the fire in the middle of the show. Just keep it real like you always have bro. Some of us really appreciate that about you. Down kicks ass as always.Won’t even suggest a new lineup for Pantera like some moron, but I will say Zakk would be the only one that could come close to filling those shoes.

  2. Seen them at Jannus Landing 11/9/07 and they were bad ass. Phil looked assume on stage and more alert. Proud of him. DOWN has come down along hard road and they fought and made it. Much respect to Phil and the rest and DOWN also good to see 2 Pantera brothers jammin(Phil&Rex). I got whooped in a few Jannus’s PITS, but it was worth it. DOWN will only be one band themselves and no one will ever be like them ever. Can’t wait to see ya all in the future.

  3. i hope down never get huge.i hope they are a band that crawl in the trenches of the underground as secret kings until they’re done.i hope they never have another band open for them or share the stage with any other band in the same night for that matter.the power of down lies in the mystery and majesty of the band–when i go to see down i go to see the nola all-stars an NOBODY else.seeing them on ozzfest taking a back seat to junk rock(NOT metal;the way i see it any way)like killswitch, godsmack, effin buck cherry?!–hell no.if money became an issue with the band, then i’d say do what must be done, but down has kept their integrity through thick and thin as far as being true to their overe.down are a band you will hear about in a decade or so,and they’ll stick out like a log in the swamp as the pop-metal bands continue to grey and lose true identities:learn to see the true employees of metal, and strive to condemn those who profit from superficial stage acting.

  4. i got the over the under cd yesterday learned all the good songs on there on guitar, and saw on headbangers ball.
down is getting more and more popular man.
they need to be on bigger tour like ozzfest and not play in little clubs or bars.
they NEED to go BIG man.
    down rocks.
i hope the best for you guys.
phil, pepper, jim, rex, kirk…..you guys rule man.

  5. Saw Down at bogarts in Cincy. Band was great, venue did not permit tabacco and was taking peoples full packs, open or not, with no intention of returning them. oh well…. hail the leaf!

  6. Best show in Seattle this year(sorry Prong you were a close second). The band played a two and a half hour set and they were flawless. I’m a Lifer………Bury me in smoke. Hail the best band of the decade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. I’ve been a Phil Anselmo fan for YEARS, and have patiently awaited the release of DOWN III… I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed!

  8. ROCK N ROLL MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I love Down’s style…They are an excellent combination of both metal and classic rock. There is sooo much garbage(ex. EMO and p#ssy crap) out there right now and its great to see Metal/Rock make a true comeback. DOWN you guys rock!

    p.s. r.i.p. dime

  10. Down is by far a breath of fresh air. All the bullshyt bands on headbangers ball, the emo ?~~ bands. Nobody out there sounds like Down. Philip Anselmo is on top of his game. He is sounding better than he has in over 10 years. I am glad he got through all his drugs and back problems. I can’t wait to see them live. Phil Anselmo say what you want about him, he is definetely one of the best frontmen in modern metal/rock/hardcore and has influenced just about every single ‘metal’ band that is playing right now.

Anyone that doesn’t get Down or thinks it is ‘generic’ rock you are freakin retarded. This stuff is absolutely amazing

  11. Just saw them in Lubbock. Absolutely brutal. Neck will be sore for a few days. DOWN ROCKS. Lead the way boys.

  12. We just got to see these guys in Houston, TX last Tuesday and I must say it was the best show I’ve ever seen to date. Their sound and show was so great and well rehearsed. I got my ass stomped in the pit during “Lysergik Funeral Procession” and I must mention that “Jail” kicked serious ass!

One of the most memorable moments of the night happened before their video started playing. Two guys in wheelchairs parked themselves right in front of the fencing. It took about twenty minutes for them to accomplish this with how packed the venue was, and these two guys had the DRUNKEST guy leading their struggle from behind him and at the top of his lungs. To prevent these two from being crushed to death, security got involved along with Jimmy Bower to bring the two guys back/side stage with him, what I would consider an AWESOME opportunity! The drunk guy apparently didn’t know who Jimmy was and would not stop arguing with him about “…THE RIGHTS OF THE HANDICAP MAN!”. The greatest part of the whole ordeal were the looks coming from a bewildered Jimmy and the laughter from all who got to witness! Bower Power!!

I can’t wait to see them again!

    -Adam

  13. STONE COLD TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    majorly kickin’ ass BROES..

  14. Who wants to bet that toaster doesn’t even know who Phil is or has ever heard of Pantera. Please you’re probably just a kid that thinks the screaming BS that passes for metal today is original without knowing that most metal bands actually had real singers in the past and Phil was one of the original screamers and does it better than most of those doing it today. Down is real metal. Sabbath, somewhat southern influenced metal.

As for Mastodon I love them but they’re a different kind of metal yet great in their own right. I really wouldn’t compare the two.

  15. BALLS TO THE WALL!!!

Damn right guys, that was killer!

  16. sexy rexy…..and jimmy *~?$~~ bower on drums…nola….riff-it-up

  17. just saw them in ft lauderdale and they kick ass

  18. I bet that was toaster’s first time hearing a down song.

  19. i bet toaster cant even play an intrument

  20. “Those with the heart and the brain to get past this
Can spot a pathetic without even asking” - Philip Anselmo (TGSTK)

  21. YESSS! \m/

Maybe not greatest metal band in the world, but
GREATEST BAND in the world for sure!

  22. How bout uncatagorizable. Wow big word for small brains. Buy the cd dipshit. It pretty much owns. You can cry more more about how it is or isn’t whatever it is you think it should be. Bottom line is it is shear and utter talent at it’s best. This band happens to be evolution in progress…. something Anselmo has been at the helm of throughout his entire career. Please, cry more though.

  23. toaster is absolutely right, this band is NOT metal. but he’s wrong saying down is generic rock. down is leaps and bounds above the average radio band. if you wanted to categorize them, you could throw them in a genre with bands like clutch and COC. which aint exactly bad company.

  24. Ahh, the masses, I need some help do I? This band is not metal, by any means. The drums, the bass the singing the guitar, is all generic modern rock. Go listen to Seether, or Chevelle if you like this kind of rock. Sigh… one day you’ll learn what good metal is.

  25. a much needed change in todays scene. congratulations down.
    sounds killer

    PLAY LOUD !!!

  26. WhoDat!! Representing New Orleans metal well!!

  27. In my opinion, this is how music videos are supposed to be. Five guys and their instruments. Best live show I’ve ever seen and this video puts me right back in front of that stage. A true honest metal group. Like Phil says, “It’s all about the amps, the drums and the f$*^ing audience”.

  28. 12 years ago when NOLA came out, sure, but now, no way. Mastodon currently rules in terms of quality.

  29. DOWN is the real deal. The video kills as does the entire album. Phil is the man and always will be!

    Toaster, you need serious help.

  30. Why can’t ya watch the vid in Canada?
    Too bad. IT ROCKS!
Glad to see something GOOD for a change on HB’s Ball.

  31. I can’t watch the video cause i live in Canada, but I wanted to say, Down is a great band, awsome albums, realy tight live, but they are by no means the greatest metal band rite now. They are more rock and southern then they are metal. Just because its made up of metal stars, doesn’t mean they are metal

  32. Yet another masterpeice from the metal worlds best band.
    “Toaster” You got problems son!!!

  33. Yeah Down III is one of the best albuns of 2007 for sure … I hope they come to Brazil pretty soon :)

  34. This band kinda sucks, how can this guy say he’s the frontman for the best metal band ever? This isn’t even metal, it’s generic rock at best. Play something original, or at least something that sounds good.

  35. band sounds great, phils voice sounds %*$#?$ awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  36. %%?@$@~ right the best!!Phillip’s voice alone makes me wanna kick a dozen motherfuckers in the balls!Hope these guys are around for a long, long time.
