Protest the Hero gettin’ loaded yet again
Rody Walker, the singer for experimental, progressive emo/thrash band Protest the Hero isn’t your typical metal maniac. For those who follow the band, that’s hardly a revelation. Sure, Rody loves his metal, and he screams with the best of the metal belters, but when he’s not metaling out, there’s a good chance he’s listening to country music. We’ll let him explain:
I’m sick of all these idiots on the Internet who claim they listen to every type of music “except country.” Those people are stupid liars. Obviously you don’t listen to everything if there’s an exception. On top of that silly mistake, country is awesome.
Old country, new country, rockabilly, country rock, honky tonk — I don’t give a f—. Give me some twang and a pack of butts and I’m a happy boy. It’s like well written pop music with a southern drawl and hilarious lyrics. Anyone who appreciates good melodies and outrageous harmonies, should love country music. If they don’t, they’re a bunch of sniveling f—ing liars. On a more superficial level, all the female vocalists are totally smokin’ hotties — hah.
Conversely, all the male singers do is sing about getting drunk and laid — well, sometimes they sing about the war in Iraq, but they’re probably just talking about getting drunk in the trenches and sexin’ up the other soldiers. It’s irrefutably sweet and there’s nothing anyone can say or do to convince me otherwise. Yes, I realize I’ve just written a “blog” for a metal-oriented audience about how sweet country is…. I don’t give a f–. “I’m not talkin’ ’bout hookin’ up and hangin’ out, I’m just talkin’ ’bout a little bit later tonight.” Peace.
Now, check out Protest the Hero’s totally non-country video for “Bloodmeat”:

I agree man. Alot of people here in Budd Lake do that too. There like “yea man, i can get into everything bro, except for country man, thats where i draw the line”, and im like, ok, there shouldn’t be a line if you like everything. Music is expression through genre, and a person who truly loves music might say that they appreciate and respect certain music, but certain types just are not there bag. Either way, PROTEST THE HERO IS MY FAVORITE CBAND…… EEEVVVEEERRRRRRRR!!!!!! GO FORTRESS!!!!

Yeah sorry bro but I disagree with you, unlike you I actualy grew up in the county and it sux. Ive hated the music since I was about 5. You say its like pop music well pop music fuc-in blows too. I agree with you that most people are just trying to ride the band wagon but that does not change the fact that country music is still written by a bunch of close minded crybabies. Dude eveyone should be entitled to there own opinion but say that people who say they dont like it are liars, cmon like I go sit in my room when knowones looking and put on clay walker or some crap. If you like country cool man but alot of people do realy hate it. As for what was said about the women country singers being hot, this is music not mtv or American Idol. What you listen too is about the music you like and not the people you wanna fu-k, if that was all that mattered wed probly all be listening to Avril Lavinge. To each there own and I love your band but country music does suck whether you like it or not, and take it from someone who grew up in the country, normal people act nothing like that, only the cowboy wannbe sh-tkickers do.

I agree with your opinion! You should take every inspiration for music!

This blog is so random, it reminds me of the “You know what really grinds my gears?” bit from the Family Guy movie, especially this following quote:
“I’m sick of all these idiots on the Internet who claim they listen to every type of music “except country.” Those people are stupid liars. Obviously you don’t listen to everything if there’s an exception. On top of that silly mistake, country is awesome.”
Well, everyone should know that Internet and Country are mutually exclusive, so this rant is kind of unnecessary.
And what’s with the picture? That just makes this even more random.

Pop music fuc-in blows apparently, thats not an opinion, according to Jakob, it’s a fact.
Really came across as smart there, DUDE.
“but country music does suck whether you like it or not”
Musical taste is subjective, nobody is right, and nobody is wrong, learn that, then progress through life.

Rody. Lol. You need to stop wasting your Canadian ass listening to stupid newfags and oldfags talk about their dead dogs.
And then you need to stick to the true music of the world, and keep your opinions to yourself about metal.
You you like Country music so much, then you should begin a progressive country band with Neil Young.
=\ Really lost some respect and a fandbase, I’m sure. I still love Kezia, and Fortress though. =D

Rody Walker! always expect the unexpected, but i somehow like his humour
February 6th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Dude, Rody. You may as well have crapped in your hand and smeared it all over my computer screen, because that’s all I see. Doo doo all over the place man. You sound like you wanna get all brokeback with the Marlboro man. I understand it’s your opinion, and your entitled to it. But as they say, you can’t spell “crap” without rap, “crock” without rock, or “incredibly crappy taste in music” without country. Metal, plain and simple. Oh and I’m amped for your show the 20th.
February 7th, 2008 at 7:32 am
I hope all of your comments are joking, if you actually are presenting as FACT that “metal is the only way”, then you fail at life, and have alot of growing up to do, musical taste is subjective, not objective.
February 7th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
I agree with you Rody country is awesome. Its a excellent genre of music that deserves recongition. And the main people who say they like all types of music except for country music has never even sat down to listen to country music because they are so caught up in stereotypes. Most people automatically think that country music is nothing but a bunch of ignorant hicks singing about their farming equiment when really most country lyrics are about just going out and having a good time. Anyways dude yall are hands down the most awesome METAL band ever, and this website sucks for calling yall emo.

omg i love this man.

greatest frontman ever.
February 8th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
As of right now every little fan kis who read this changed their opinion and just made themselves even bigger posers…
great
February 8th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Also I’m not going to agree or disagree with what he said.
I think country is fine and if you like it it’s fine and there is some country stuff that’s quite good but then again there is some stuff that makes me want to jump off a cliff, then again country came before rock music which also influenced it.
February 9th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
i agree and dissagree because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. i like a bit of everything. just because i listen to metal or hardcore music doesnt mean i cant listen to country and folk. and it kind of pisses me off when people choose to hate a certain genre just because someone else said its uncool. and like Elsa said, country was pretty much the influence of every other type of music.
February 12th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
this is for te dumbass who could not spell “closed minded” or “Fuckin”.Bitch your trying to fight about music with Rody Walker. i’m sorry but i dont know what you can play or how you can sing… #~*~ i bet you have no ?#*@?@ musical talent!! and yes i’am talking #~*~ because i’am bored. And if yu do have musical skill or talent am very sorry but still go %*?# yourself because your muics skill or talent is nothing cmpared to that of Rody’s. I Love Protest The Hero! Country’s okay, but I like jazz a lot more. Fortress kicks total arse. I was so inspired on my first listen that I wrote a 1600 page epic about peanut brittle.
Now a progressive/metal/jazz/country/blues/polka/finding nemo album would excite me to write a 9000 page one.
Thanks for making beautiful, intricate, brutal and furiously talented music!
March 7th, 2008 at 6:08 am
Why is everyone taking this so seriously? You’ve got people saying ‘I’ve lost respect for you’. Why? Because you think that someone who is in a metal band should only stick to that and not be allowed to like anything else? I don’t particularly like it, but put some on and I’ll be having a some kind of hoedown of epic proportions.
Now let’s settle down and go get drunk.

Rody, don’t avoid the inevitable… GO TO REHAB!!
