Starting May 26, Christian metal band Demon Hunter will embark on a headline run with the recently reunited Christian death metal band Living Sacrifice, Oh, Sleeper, The Famine and Advent. The tour will be Demon Hunter's first since they released their fourth album Storm the Gates of Hell in November 2007. Why are six months going to pass between the album's release and the first date of the tour? Simple. The guys in Demon Hunter have serious day jobs. Singer Ryan Clark is the graphic designer for Solid State and Tooth & Nail Records, his brother and guitarist Don designs album covers for a wide range of other artists, including Foo Fighters and Chris Cornell, and bassist Jon Dunn has an A&R gig at Tooth & Nail. Because of this, Demon Hunter have to carve out a window of time to finish as many projects as they can before they hit the road.
Being off tour for so long would hurt a lot of bands, but not Demon Hunter, whose fans have grown to accept their unconventional schedule. What's more, the anticipation that has already started to build ends up serving as a selling point.
In our podcast interview with Ryan Clark, we discussed Demon Hunter's atypical business model, the Clark's day jobs, the upcoming tour, the Living Sacrifice reunion, the musical growth Demon Hunter have undergone over the years, whether fans of Christian metal are less likely to download music illegally than fans of black metal and the many late nights Demon Hunter actually spend sleeping.
