Every time we turn around, old timers no one cares about and bands with just one studio album seem to be releasing live DVDs. Add that to the bonus DVDs groups are tagging onto their CDs with the hopes they will encourage fans to actually buy the damn things, and you're left with a case of genuine DVD overload. And don't get us started on the standard format -- a full concert and loads of stupid road antics chock full of the requisite drinking, puking, vandalizing stuff -- and boobies.
Well, having gotten that out of our systems, we're happy to say that the upcoming DVD set by Massachusetts metalcore/thrash band Unearth actually rips. For proof, hit "read more" and watch out the DVD preview clip at the end of this post).
Exhibiting the ultimate in restraint, the band waited until it had released three albums and had accumulated a bit of history before hitting us with the full double-disc video experience, "Alive From the Apocalypse," a release packed with live footage, interviews, music videos and, yeah, some goofy backstage stuff as well.
The first DVD features an 11-song concert shot on October 9 at the Glasshouse in Pomona, California. The shoot was helmed by Doug Spangenberg and Space Monkey Studios, which has also worked with Killswitch Engage and All That Remains. And Unearth guitarist Ken Susi mixed the audio, giving it that extra dash of authenticism. Performances include "Giles," "This Glorious Nightmare" "Endless," and "Only the People."
DVD number two includes bonus interviews with members of Slipknot, Hell Yeah, Zao, As I Lay Dying, Poison the Well, All That Remains and Killswitch Engage, as well as concert footage from: the Metal Blade Records 25th Anniversary Show from Worcester, Massachusetts on April 28 2007; Sounds of the Underground 2005; New England Metal & Hardcore Festival 2003 and other performances from around the world. You'll also find all of the band's music videos, including, "This Glorious Nightmare," "Giles," "Endless," "Zombie Autopilot" and "Sanctity of Brothers."
