We've heard of bands dropping off tours because of illness, injury, excessive drug use or the inability to get along with other groups on the bill, but this is a first. Whitby, Ontario experimental metal band Protest the Hero have abandoned their tour with Silverstein for sucking too hard.
"We realized our internal structure was built on a whimsical foundation. We have become a disorganized touring band, and it's left the five of us exhausted and miserable," said frontman Rody Walker in a candid MySpace statement. "Ergo, we are revamping, whipping our team into shape, polishing our rims, straightening our brims, and making a stab at semi-professionalism. Though dropping a tour may seem like a very unprofessional thing to do, we need this time to get our s--t back on track."
The utterly unconventional band may have sounded like crap live, but that doesn't mean they're overhyped or just plain over. Quite the opposite, their second album, Fortress, which came out January 29, is one of the most exciting metal albums we've heard so far this year. And that's why in January we posted a profile interview with Walker. Plus, we've seen them kick some serious ass live long before they agreed to tour with Silverstink.
Walker's MySpace statement was as amusing as it was surprising and featured various witty comments and sarcastic barbs. "If you sincerely have a problem with this that cannot be resolved with me whispering an apology softly in your ear and kissing you upon your forehead... we are willing to pay the travel fare to get you to my mother's house where we will sort things out like human beings," he said. "And I do mean bare knuckle boxing. However, duly note [that] underneath this thin pale flesh, I am actually Kimbo Slice."

The kooky band band plans to head back out on the road April 1 in Colombia, Missouri, and will bang their country-lovin' heads all summer on this year's Warped tour.
