From Alaska with love, here comes the new 36 Crazyfists video for “We Gave it Hell.” The clip was directed by Soren (All That Remains, Unearth) in the Hatcher’s Pass region and comes from the band’s new album The Tide and its Takers, which comes out May 27. Here’s singer Brock Lindow’s take on the clip:
Picture this. Clear skies, negative 30 degrees and mountains that brush elbows with god. Mix in the world’s finest and most fearless professional snow mobilers, and you have the wildest adventure I could ever dream up. The video was a long time coming for me and the fine folks at Ferret delivered us the goods. We had A really great time collaborating with Soren on the visual concept. Basically, we all rode back into Hatcher’s Pass and shot all the riders doing their thing as well as all our friends partying in the parking lot of the State park. Lyrically I took a fist-in-the-air approach to the song to express that never give in mentality. Definitely it was the greatest time we have ever had making a video.

I can’t believe these guys came back! AMAZING SONG! They really changed their ways since Bitterness and RITF! I don’t know if they got a new singer of if the singer just looks a little chubby on the face, but this song was awesome and got me into headbanging mode quicker than JFaC “Altered from Catechization”! great job 36! And no offense to Noble, but this album will never compare itself for album of the year status when it comes to Protest the Hero!
LOVE IT!!!! 36 is 1 of my favorite bands ever!!!!!!! keep rockin and making awesome music!
Having been a fan since Bitterness, I have to say that this is a de-evolution in the music personally. Obviously, my “interwebs whining” doesn’t mean much in the scope of things, but despite the problems with Roadrunner and such, I think that Rest Inside The Flames was an amazing album and a logical progression from where Snow-Capped Romance left off…and the same could be said for Bitterness to Snow-Capped. However, I just haven’t gotten the same punch in the gut from “Absent Are The Saints” and “We Gave It Hell” like I did the first time I heard “Slit Wrist Theory”, “Turns To Ashes”, “At The End of August”, and “Midnight Swim”.
Maybe it’s the underplaying of Brock’s vocals or the straight-ahead rhythms that are lacking the outside influences they’ve put into their previous music. I’ll be picking up the album on day one, regardless, because I’ve supported them since Joey from Unloco showed me Bitterness The Star back before Unloco released Becoming I. I just don’t know how I feel about Brock’s vocals yet, as that was always one of the BIG things that made them so unique.
It’s hard music…sure…but it’s probably going to end up being one that I’ll have to listen to quite a few times before I can get into it.
I don’t want to be the guy that says “hey, make another Bitterness/Snow-Capped/Rest Inside”, as that would be de-evolutionizing the music as well…but this just doesn’t feel like the natural progression I was expecting.
