After Divine Heresy guitarist Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory) fired Tommy Cummings because of personal differences, some smart-asses chimed in about how Fear Factory singer Burton C. Bell should join the band. Obviously, that didn't happen and Divine Heresy are now touring with ex-Periphery singer Jake Veredika. But if Bell wasn't involved with his own band Ascension of the Watchers and didn’t have future plans with Fear Factory, well, who knows…
There was a time when Cazares and Bell were at odds with one another. Here’s the background: Bell quit Fear Factory in 2002, causing the band’s break up. Then, he reformed the group with all of the members but Cazares, and the Factory recorded two more albums, 2004’s Archetype and 2005’s Transgression before going into hibernation. After Cazares' departure, he focused his efforts on Brujeria and Asesino before forming Divine Heresy.
But now, with more than five years behind them and Fear Factory in limbo, Cazares and Bell are again on speaking terms. The two first hooked up at a Ministry show in Los Angeles (where Ascension of the Watchers was opening) and ironed out their differences.
"He came up to me and was like, 'Dino!, and I'm like Burt!'" Cazares told Headbangers Ball Blog. "And we just hung out for a while. He was drinking wine, I was having beers. We talked about old times, and we didn’t talk about any drama. It almost felt like it didn’t really happen. It was just two old buddies that hadn’t seen each other in a while hanging out. And we just talked and had a good time. We didn’t speak anything about Fear Factory. Our intentions were nothing to do with a reunion. It was just like trying to catch up with an old friend. It was really cool and I was really happy."
If you had thought a meeting between Cazares and Bell would have erupted in shouting and fist flinging, you’re not the only one. One of the Cazares’ acquaintances also feared the worst.
"It was kind of funny because this guy came up to me before and went, 'Hey, man, Burt's here!’ And I’m like, 'Uhhh, yeahhhh?' And he goes, 'Well, we don’t want anything to happen.' And I go, 'What are you talking about?' Next thing you know, the person who said that is standing right there, and Burt comes up to me and goes, 'Hey, Dino, what’s up??' And the guy’s like, 'Oooohh, I just made myself look stupid.'"
Of course, friendly communication between Cazares and Bell sparks questions about whether Cazares might return to Fear Factory. But the guitarist says that's not gonna happen.
"I don't speak to the other members at all, and I most likely would never do a reunion with the other guys," Cazares says. "I just don’t want anything to do with them."
What Cazares is excited about these days, aside from Divine Heresy, is "Rock N' Porn," a just released adult film he appears in with numerous large-breasted porn stars including Elizabeth Starr and Summer Cummings – which conjures some fearful imagery of the hefty rocker dropping trou. "You’re just have to wait and see what I do in the film," he teases. "I know people are going, 'Oh, I don’t want to see Dino f---ing on film.' It'll be one of those things where you put your hand on your face while you’re looking through your fingers."
While Cazares may not have the physique of Biohazard member-turned-porn star Evan Seinfeld, he insists he has some strong attributes for the adult genre. "Burt once gave me the nickname Huge Heffner," Cazares says. "And somebody else called me Jabba the Hung."
Fortunately, Cazares is just blowing hot air. A spokesperson for Starr Productions says the guitarist does not have sex in the movie, which also features Static-X bassist Tony Campos, Pretty Boy Floyd, Enuff Z'Nuff, JB Frank of Kingdom Come, Joey Image of the Misfits, at Stacy Starr of The Zeros.
