Counter-culture poet and provocateur, Otep Shamaya is almost as prolific and creative with her band’s videos as she is with her infamous “Might Makes Write” Headbangers Ball Blog guest blogs. Not long after dropping the video for “Confrontation,” Otep have hammered us with a new one for the song “Crooked Spoons,” which is also from their latest album The_Ascension.

“This song represents the fine line between madness and happiness,” she tells Headbangers Ball Blog. “It is an exploration of all those things considered forbidden or taboo. The video is an exposition of the American way in all of its beautiful contradictions: sex, violence, solidarity, betrayal, lust, power, religion. I was reading Nietzsche when I was writing the early lyrics for this song, and was captured by his ideas on the world being “the will to power” and how humanity has a natural appetite for destruction. I find this song to be seductive, erotic, dangerous, and provocative. It’s one of my favorites.”

I love Otep so much, they are such an inspiration, though i am a little disappointed in this video, it looks like they just threw it together : /
But dont get my wrong, i love otep they are my favorite band and i love this song alot!!!

I love her. I think her music is dope and she’s extremely intelligent and relevant in her poetry and music. I will agree that the video could have been better. I’d like to see a video for “Home Grown” soon.
