Of all the surviving heavy metal icons, none are more authentic or carry more credibility than Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. For over 40 years, Lemmy has defined the heavy metal lifestyle and music form, adhering to his principles, writing songs gloriously out of step with the times and flipping the bird to all those who who covers their ears. Astonishingly, Kilmister's music not just been iconoclastic, it's been hugely influential, laying the foundation for thrash, death metal and hardcore. And whether he's tearing it up with Motorhead, picking up chicks at the Rainbow or stumbling drunkenly through a dark alley shouting belligerent curses at whoever he steps on, Lemmy remains ever true to himself and his values.

Because of Kilmister's historical, sociological and comical value, directors/producers Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski decided to film Lemmy: The Movie, a documentary of their hero that's scheduled to surface sometime in 2009. The flick is being shot on a combination of HD video and super 16 mm film and will include tribute interviews with Dave Grohl, Alice Cooper, and Steve Vai and wrestler Triple H as well as abundant video footage of Lemmy doing what he does best.

Okay, Megadeth and In Flames are always great, but one of the highlights of this year's Gigantour was clearly Children of Bodom, who delivered a stunning and consistent combination of heaviness, virtuosity and melody everywhere they played. Before their show in Philadelphia, Headbangers Ball Blog caught up with frontman Alexi Laiho and keyboardist Janne Wirman to discuss the band's new album Blooddrunk, Laiho's accident prone ways and how to party on the road without losing control.

No one has infiltrated the black metal community like Peter Beste and lived to tell about it.

For much of the past decade, the photographer has traveled through the cities, and villages of Norway taking pictures of extreme musicians, fans and the exquisite countryside. The Best of Beste's shots have been assembled in his book True Norwegian Black Metal, which comes out June 1. However, not all of Beste's breathtaking black metal photos are included in the mighty tome.

To celebrate the upcoming release of his book, Beste furnished Headbangers Ball Blog with a batch of exclusive shots that reveal his grasp of the black metal aesthetic and mastery of his craft. The photographer has also written captions that provide additional insight into his art and subject matter.

Either this week's logo isn't really that indecipherable or this German band -- which is currently touring the U.S. with Mucopus, Sexcrement and Corpremesis -- has a larger fanbase than we thought. Yeah, as a number of you guessed, the band is Defeated Sanity.

When MetalInjection.net discovered Animosity singer Leo Miller was a big fan of Louisiana grindcore band Soilent Green they asked him to jot down some questions, grab a microphone and lay it down for them journalist-style.

The following interview went down at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and the musicians discussed Soilent Green's new album Inevitable Collapse in the Presence of Conviction, working with producer Erik Rutan, the New Orleans metal scene and the band's upcoming tour with Dethklok.

On Saturday's edition of "Headbangers Ball" we aired exclusive premieres of Shai Hulud's "Misanthropy Pure," Dead Child's "Sweet Chariot," Hatebreed's "Never Let it Die" and Bullet For My Valentine's "Waking the Demon." Now's your chance to let us know what you thought, power-to-the-people-style. Cast your vote to bring back one of these vids for next week's program. Or, if you weren't that impressed by any of 'em, chose one of the others we played on the show, and we'll air that instead.

Past "Your Vote Counts" winners, Opeth's "Porcelain Heart" and and Pelican's "Dead Between the Walls," aren't eligible for your vote (which doesn't mean we won't consider them for the show's lineup). On May 27, Tampa Florida Christian metalcore band Underoath will release their new live CD and DVD "Survive, Kaleidoscope." But that's not what guitarist Tim McTague is most stoked about. Just last week, the band finished the final tracking for their yet-untitled upcoming album, which is scheduled for release September 2. And judging by everything McTague told Headbangersblog.com it seems likely to be the record to break Underoath out of the metalcore and Christian rock ghettos and earn them respect as a creative, impassioned and original rock outfit.

This week's indecipherable logo comes to us courtesy of a national  tour that's currently infecting the underground and turning formerly sane people into mangled zombies who feed at dusk, tearing their victim's torso's apart and consuming their innards.

But hey, at least it'a multilateral force composed of cannibalistic bands from the U.S and abroad, so no single entity will be targeted for heretical, maniacal acts and burned at the stake without the right to a fair trial.

The above logo belongs to one of the groups on the bill and looks like a corpse picked clean, with leftover bones and nasty sinewy stuff strewn across the bloody parking lot of a Wal-Marts. Keep in mind, this is a crime scene, so approach with caution and don't destroy any of the fetid evidence. Damn, it looks like it's time to send in the Infectious Disease Control Unit. They're coming for you all. Top secret government video of the main perpetrators coming Monday.

Even open-minded headbangers can be excused for not knowing the background of Louisville, Kentucky quintet Dead Child.

Before the bandmembers started writing punchy, old-school metal, they were crafting, elliptical indie rock for a totally different crowd. Frontman David Pajo hails from prismic slowcore pioneers Slint and has also played in Tortoise, Zwan and Papa M. Guitarist Michael McMahan was in The For Carnation and bassist Todd Cook played in Shipping News and Crain (both players Joined Pajo in 2005 for the Slint Reunion). But with Dead Child, the musicians have cast indie cred to the wind, stepped into some tight jeans, cranked up their amps and bashed out some sincere, no-frills songs that sound like a cross between Judas Priest, Accept and Kyuss. Dead Child's debut album Attack came out in April and it smokes like a burning building.

Origin singer James Lee wants to tell us all about his band's new video for their song "Finite," and we're feeling inclined to listen. Seriously, cuz the dude's pretty big... Oh, and he's from Topeka, Kansas, which means he probably doesn't have anything better to do than drink cheap beer and kick the crap out of elite big city folk like ourselves. Also, he writes some pretty scary s--t and seems to have no reservations about getting in touch with his inner savage (just listen to that growl!!). But most importantly, anyone who can write music as technically brutal as Origin's new album Antithesis deserves to be heard.
