Yeah, we know Max Cavalera just released an album with Cavalera Conspiracy in March, but this guy's a machine. While Max is on tour with the Conspiracy (U.S. dates start July 17 in Philadelphia) the new album by his other band, Soulfly, will drop on the unprotected heads of all doubters like an anvil on a cantaloupe. Conquer comes out July 29, and Cavalera describes it as "Soulfly's most battle-ready record by far," adding, "The vibe reminds me of movies like 'Gladiator' and '300.'"
In our first of three interview segments, Soulfly discuss the differences between the new disc and their last album Dark Ages, and how they wound up collaborating with Morbid Angel frontman David Vincent and Throwdown Singer Dave Peters. Click "more" to see the magic: Read more...

We figured the maniacal Swedish Chef from "The Muppets" would crank up Scandinavian music when he wanted to swing the cleaver or choke his chicken, but we sort of took him for a fan of Hypocrisy, Meshuggah, At the Gates or someone else from Sweden. Little did we know the puffy guy prefers folk metal. See him dance a jig to Korpiklaani: Read more...

Last week, Dillinger Escape Plan posted a message on their MySpace for their fans to vote for their "Black Bubblegum" video in our Your Vote Counts challenge. Their fans commented in droves, but not in time. While the band registered more votes than The Black Dahlia Murder, many of those votes came in after our 2 p.m. deadline and were ineligible. Hence, Black Dahlia took the crown and earned an encore airing on last weekend's "Headbangers Ball." So, without stacking the deck for Dillinger, we're extending an open invitation to the band's fans to start voting now.
Of course, Dillinger aren't the only band in the running. This week, we've also got debut videos by Straight Line Stitch ("Black Veil") and Boris ("Statement"), as well as new clips by Judas Priest, Cryptopsy, Disturbed, Machine Head and Emmure.
Remember, once an artist wins Your Vote Counts, it is no longer eligible for your vote. That means no bringing back The Black Dahlia Murder, Dead Child, Opeth, Shai Hulud or Pelican. Voting runs between now and Wednesday at 2 p.m. Anyone who votes more than once will be disqualified. Comments included with your vote may be published along with your name on Wednesday’s post announcing the winner. Click “more” to your this week’s choices: Read more...

One of the best performances at Norway's Hovefestivalen came from Cavalera Conspiracy, who mixed songs from their debut album, Inflikted with Sepultura tracks that spanned frontman Max Cavalera's tenure with the band. Click More to read our review and watch the footage. Read more...

There aren't too many bands as engagingly uncategorizable as North Carolina's Between the Buried and Me. One minute, they're writing dizzying prog rock songs full of unconventional rhythm and tempo changes, and the next they're unleashing a series of dissonant, chugging chords and crashing beats as jarring as a wrecking ball through your living room window. The band's eclecticism appeals equally to fans of death metal, prog-rock, metalcore, hardcore and even deathcore.
Because of this, Between the Buried and Me have played some wildly divergent bills since releasing their fifth album, Colors, last September. This spring they were on Dream Theater's Progressive Nation tour package along with Opeth and 3, and they're currently wrapping up a European tour with Meshuggah and Dillinger Escape Plan. Once they get back from Europe at the end of the month they'll be done touring for a while, but in September they'll head out again for a U.S. tour with Children of Bodom.
While they're off the road, Between the Buried and Me will begin working on the follow-up to Colors, which they hope to release in early 2009. For fans who can't wait that long, the band will release a live DVD in October featuring two sets -- one of Colors material and one of older songs.
While Between the Buried and Me were in Europe, we talked to guitarist Paul Waggoner about the band's efforts to remain original, the difference between experimentation and self-indulgence, the upcoming DVD and the next studio record, which just might be the group's first full-fledged concept album. Waggoner also filled us in on the final show shenanigans on the Progressive Nation tour and his favorite prog and metal bands.

In our final sneak preview of Lamb of God's new five-plus hour double-DVD set "Walk With Me in Hell," which comes out Tuesday, the guys arrive Scandinavia and play their first ever shows in Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. The clip features about three minutes of "Walk With Me in Hell," and includes footage of singer Randy Blythe saying something to the crowd in Swedish that didn't quite come out as he'd intended. Today's preview from Lamb of God's upcoming DVD set "Walk With Me in Hell" (out July 1) documents the band's first ever sold out hometown show, which took place during the Sacrament tour -- more than 10 years after the group's formation. The gig was scheduled right before the band headed to Europe, and during the show singer Randy Blythe announced that guitarists Mark Morton and Will Adler would crowd surf from the front of the venue to the back while playing their instruments. At that point, it was too late for the guys to back out. Click "more" to see it all: Read more...
