Before we dive into this week’s photo entry by Slipknot percussionist Shawn Crahan (a.k.a. Clown), we have a public service announcement for our readers. The debut EP by Crahan’s other group, Dirty Little Rabbits, Simon, can be pre-ordered alone for $5.99 or with a band t-shirt for $10.99 by clicking here. The link also contains streaming snippets of all six songs on the EP, which comes out January 27. We now return to our regularly scheduled blog.
Crahan new pic, “All of Life and Death,” is abstract and kinda sinister. The image in the center is in the shape of an apple, which may be one reason why the artist refers to the shot as his rendition of “the Garden of Eden.” But there’s more… Much more. Click “more” to see the pic and read Clown’s comments.
This is a still life heavily inspired by H.R. Giger, and my love for him and his surrealism and depth and his sexuality and fantasy and imagination. So, this is extremely inspired by him from the eggs to the metal, and if you were to turn it, you’d see I’m trying to represent a vagina with a clitoris. But it’s also aliens and charcoal and death and teeth. It’s everything and anything you want it to be. It’s nothing you don’t want it to be, and I’ll stand up in a court of law and say I don’t know what it is. But there you go.
It’s a very important piece for me and I worked very hard on it for a long time. It’s a single photo that features glass and and all kinds of things to make it work. This is something I would put in a gallery to sell and it would be four-foot by four-foot. It would be huge. All my stuff has to be big. This is an extreme conceptual idea and it’s basically the Garden of Eden.
