New York-based extreme death metal band, Suffocation, shot a for the track "Cataclysmic Purification" on May 31 with director David Brodsky (Arsis, God Forbid, Kataklysm). When asked about the new track and their soon to be released sixth full-length album “Blood Oath,” Suffocation bassist Derek Boyer said, "Cataclysmic Purification audibly portrays a calamitous future approaching. With this song and the rest of the album I think we've maintained the musical integrity of the band while still having comprehendible brutality. Blood Oath combines straight forward crushing movements with unsuspecting twists that will certainly entertain everyone from the avid Suffocation listener to the first time innocent bystanders." Slava Giebel, guitarist for German Viking Metal band StrydegoR, was killed in a car accident on May 25.

"It is not easy for us to put our feelings into words," said the band in a statement. "The most important thing is that Slava will never be forgotten, and we will, in any case, continue with the band. Read more...

The next album by experimental math-metal marvels, The Dillinger Escape Plan, will come out in early 2010 the band's brand new label Phonogetic Records through Season on Mist Records.

Deathcore progenitors, Job For a Cowboy, have completed work on their highly-anticipated sophomore album, Ruination, which will be released on July 7.

The disc will be a concept album that branches off the ideas from the band's last record, Genesis. "They're more political," says frontman Jonny Davy, [addressing] "propaganda in the mainstream media and television, humanitarian rights of Northern Korea, the modern genocidal government of Nubia, the use of torture in American military tactics, overruling by world governments and Police states, and Martial law." Producer Dave Fortman (Mudvayne, Evanescence, Slipknot) began mixing the new Anthrax album, Worship Music, late last week in a New Orleans studio. The album, now set for a Fall release, is the band's first studio effort in six years and marks the recording debut of new lead vocalist Dan Nelson.

Commented Fortman, "In 1986, I saw two shows at Jed's in New Orleans that changed my life, one of those was Anthrax. Not long after, I packed up and headed out to make a career in music. Twenty-three years later, it's an absolute pleasure and an honor to work with these guys. They are and always have been one of the great forces in metal." Read more...

Tim Millar’s big day has finally arrived. Millar, guitarist of Canadian metal powerhouse Protest The Hero, has been growing his beard for three years in hopes of competing in the 2009 World Beard and Moustache Championships. This Saturday, May 23, the Championships will be held in Anchorage, Alaska and Millar will be competing in the “Alaskan Whaler” category.

A film crew will be accompanying Tim as he and Beard Team Canada compete for the first time in this global event. A documentary film about the life of Ozzy Osbourne, "The Wreckage of My Past," is coming to theaters. The movie, which is scheduled for release some time in 2010, is being directed by Mike Piscitelli and was written and produced by Jordan Tappis. The executive producers for the film are Ozzy's son Jack Osbourne and wife and manager Sharon Osbourne, and the movie will be the first offering from Jack's production company, Jacko.
