Here's the latest indecipherable band logo for your amusement. Even if you can do the New York Times crossword puzzle in a mere 15 minutes, this brainteaser might stump you. To us, it looks like someone trying to take notes with a leaky pen on a bumpy train. Hint: They're one of the few metal bands from Tasmania and were probably spawned by the animated cartoon character, the Tasmanian Devil. Here are your options.
a) Striborg
b) Asinboid
c) Slayer
d) Ndwxhri
e) Isaibon
The correct answer to yesterday's multiple choice question is "B," Nagelfar. The progressive German black metal band formed in 1993 and released three albums before breaking up in April 2002. Their final opus, Virus West, was recently re-released. Tune in tomorrow for another zany, brain-teasing logo.
The folks at Century Media have announced that Brand New Sin will begin their U.S. tour with Type O Negative on March 28th. Celtic Frost will join the tour on April 9th.
The band will also be performing at this year's South By Southwest in Austin TX. When asked about the upcoming shows singer John Altier said, "We are extremely excited to hit the road with the legendary Type O Negative. We thank Pete Steele and the rest of the guys for asking us to be a part of their first tour in nearly three years."

To paraphrase Eminem, won't the real Black Sabbath please stand up? About five years ago, Ozzy entered the studio with the rest of Black Sabbath to record some tracks, which have not yet surfaced. To further complicate matters, Sharon Osbourne said last October that a new Black Sabbath album featuring Ozzy would come out in late 2007, though it's unclear when the members will all find the time to get together and record it. No, the first new Black Sabbath songs to be released since 1998 have nothing to do with Ozzy and will be on the album Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, which comes out March 13.
The new tracks, "The Devil Cried," "Shadows of the Wind" and "Ear in the Wall," feature Ronnie James Dio, who fronted Sabbath from 1980 to 1983 and again from 1991 to 1993. Rhino Records has posted a stream of "The Devil Cried".
For most of this year, the Dio-fronted Black Sabbath will be touring under the name Heaven and Hell, starting in Vancouver on March 11. So far, the only U.S. date is March 30 in New York.
And now, the groovalicious video of "Paranoid".

Everyone knows that the more extreme a metal band is, the harder it is to read the logo on its album. For diehard fans, this creates a cult-like exclusivity that's pretty cool, but for headbangers who just want to know what the hell they're looking at when they're browsing, it can be pretty frustrating. So, to demystify the process, we've created a little game. If the name of this band is Greek to you, you're not alone. But, actually, they're German. And that's the only hint you're gonna get. (Blast beats please) Here are your choices:
A: Atrofizer
B: Nagelfar
C: Divinet
D: Lucifer
E: Metallica
Answer coming tomorrow.
Of the three major German thrash bands to emerge in the ‘80s, Kreator, Destruction and Sodom, Kreator have kicked the most ass.
Back in the day, they upped the speed ante on American thrash and paved the way to death metal with 1985's Endless Pain and 1986's Pleasure to Kill. And, while their output through the ‘90s was less than stellar, they remedied themselves with 2001's bludgeoning Violent Revolution, which they followed with the equally slamming Enemy of God in 2005.
This week Headbangers Ball will present the premiere of Kreator's live video for "People of the Lie." The clip was shot during the band's appearance at the 2005 Wacken Open Air festival. In the meantime, here's a glimpse of Kreator playing "Reconquering the Throne" in France in 2002.

Speedmetal would most likely be thismuch slower if the great Dave Mustaine never picked up a guitar.
On March 6, you'll have more visual proof of Mustaine's magic fingers as Megadeth releases a new live DVD called That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires. The show was filmed in October 2005 in front of 25,000 screaming Argentine metalheads as seen in this promo video.
Mustaine says in a press release that we may (or may not) have spilled some energy drink on, "This was one of the greatest nights of my life. "I am glad I was able to document it and share it with you. ‘That One Night' is a lesson in metal fanaticism by some of the best participating, most frenzied, and intense concert-goers in the world! I have waited ten years to show the rest of the world how much Megadeth and Argentina love each other. If seeing this doesn't convince you how lethal a Megadeth concert in Argentina with some very close personal friends can be, don't worry…you're already dead."
Now would be a good time to tuck into some classic Megadeth. We know that the thought of Dave Mustaine being as great a political economist as the legendary Adam Smith has probably crossed your mind a few times, and the lyric "peace sells, but who's buying" pretty much proves it, eh?
