The Black Dahlia Murder, Kataklysm and Necrophagist are a few of the obvious highlights from this year's Summer Slaughter tour, but there are a bunch of other bands that are tearing faces and taking names as well, and one of the most lethal is Hobart, Tasmania's Psycroptic.

The band plays extreme technical death metal that's both intensely mathematical and absolutely captivating. With drums that pummel at, like, 8,000 BPM and guitars that shave flesh faster than a vegetable skinner, yet still leave something tangible in their slippery wake, Psycroptic could challenge Arsis and Meshuggah for the Nobel Noise Prize of Science. And they're every bit as brutal live, nailing each impossible rhythm shift and speed flurry with hunger and precision. Don't believe us? On Wednesday we presented a preview of the new Terror video for "Never Alone." Today, we've got the full video premiere. It's just one of two new videos the band shot in a day near the end of its tour with Earth Crisis. The other is for the song "Betrayer"; both tracks on on the band's new album, The Damned, the Shamed.

"The storylines are connected and I guess you need to see both to get the full picture," says frontman Scott Vogel. "They were done by our friends at Space Monkey who did the last video, 'Lost,' and also our [2006] DVD ["The Living Proof"]."

Many scenes in the video were shot in a run down Philadelphia-area prison that still houses some inmates. "The building was eerie and really set the tone for the long day," Vogel says. "I guess, overall, the videos deal with truth, trust, knowing who the enemy is, greed, lust, revenge and death and the way all of these forces interlock in this ugly world. The clip also shows the results of these inner battles. It’s always kind of odd for me when we are shooting these things, but the end result is great."

Last week, Dillinger Escape Plan posted a message on their MySpace for their fans to vote for their "Black Bubblegum" video in our Your Vote Counts challenge. Their fans commented in droves, but not in time. While the band registered more votes than The Black Dahlia Murder, many of those votes came in after our 2 p.m. deadline and were ineligible. Hence, Black Dahlia took the crown and earned an encore airing on last weekend's "Headbangers Ball." So, without stacking the deck for Dillinger, we're extending an open invitation to the band's fans to start voting now.

Of course, Dillinger aren't the only band in the running. This week, we've also got debut videos by Straight Line Stitch ("Black Veil") and Boris ("Statement"), as well as new clips by Judas Priest, Cryptopsy, Disturbed, Machine Head and Emmure.

Remember, once an artist wins Your Vote Counts, it is no longer eligible for your vote. That means no bringing back The Black Dahlia Murder, Dead Child, Opeth, Shai Hulud or Pelican. Voting runs between now and Wednesday at 2 p.m. Anyone who votes more than once will be disqualified. Comments included with your vote may be published along with your name on Wednesday’s post announcing the winner. Click “more” to your this week’s choices: Read more...

In just two days, one of the heaviest bills of the season, The Summer Slaughter Tour, will launch in Detroit. Headlining the tour will be The Black Dahlia Murder, the Motor City's heaviest and most ferocious band to get some major attention since the Stooges. A lot of people have said to me in the last month, “I bet you’re really pissed that your new record isn’t even out and everyone already has it.” I am, but not for the reasons most people think.

Sure, I would like a huge royalty check and top chart positions, but I’m a realist, and playing what we play…that just won’t happen whether downloading existed or not. I’m upset because getting a downloaded version of the new Terror record is not a complete experience. Music, to me, is way more than just the sound coming out of your iPod. The artwork, the lyrics, the photos -- all these things make up an album. And, what if you’re hearing a recording before it is completely mixed and mastered? It’s f---ing sad, man. Read more...

Those dedicated Otep fans -- the same ones who post gushing comments about frontwoman Otep Shamaya's weekly "Might Makes Write" column -- have done it again. This week, Otep's faithful swarmed in and delivered spam-like levels of comments electing the band's "Crooked Spoons" video for a return trip to Headbangers Ball. Read more...
