It's not a very nice term, but dorkcore is probably the best description for Genghis Tron's jawdropping amalgamation of programmed beats, eerie samples, math-metal rhythms and damaged, world-on-fire vocals. Check out our review of the band's 2008 album, Board Up the House, which, last year, we ranked the third best record you might not have heard. And for those of you who like to live on the outer fringes, Genghis Tron have released five Board Up the House remix EPs, each of which features other artists reinterpreting their songs.

Our friends at MetalInjection.net have just posted three cool live videos from a recent New York show that prove Genghis Tron are just as inspiring live as in the studio. Click "more" to see the vids. And after their next show, don't be afraid to walk up to them. They may be music dweebs, but they're totally nice guys. And they might just help you with your math homework. Read more...

German company Rockhaus Television has posted a full Twisted Sister concert shot recently at the London Astoria for what vocalist Dee Snider calls a "possible pay per view special." During the show, the band performs a cavalcade of hits, including "We're Not Gonna Take It," "Burn in Hell," "The Kids Are Back" and "Ride to Live, Live to Ride." We recently posted an item about how a growing number of major bands, including Metallica, Judas Priest and Gojira have chosen to release animated videos over performance-based clips. Now, Heaven and Hell (a.k.a. Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio) have joined the pack. The band's video for "The Bible Black," the first single from their new album The Devil You Know (out tomorrow) features cartoon imagery of a bored angel who discovers an evil book and plummets into Hell, where he meets the cartoon version of Sabbath and Dio. The clip was produced by Joseph A. Russo II and James A. Fino of 23d Films, Inc. and directed by Ben Ceccarelli. Click "more" to watch the video, stream the full album and hear our podcast interview with Dio and bassist Geezer Butler. Read more...

Bethel, Connecticut band Sacred Oath recently released its fourth record Sacred Oath, and just three days later the album hit #46 on the iTunes rock chart. "This is our time. Classic metal is back," says singer Rob Thorne. "Hand me the damn flag, I’ll wave it with pride.”

To help the band celebrate its success, HeadbangersBlog.com is proud to present the online debut of their new video "Counting Zeros."

"I couldn’t be happier," said Thorne. "Counting Zeros is my favorite track on the album for so many reasons, not least of which is the lyric content. A few years ago we were uncovering the corruption underneath the war in Iraq. Now we’re neck deep in AIG bonuses and Bernie Madoff. 'Counting Zeros' is a call to arms." Let us know what you think of the new Disturbed video for "The Night." The clip was directed by Noble Jones (3 Doors Down), who aimed to capture the cinematic starkness and eerieness of sci-fi flicks like "Alien" and "The Thing." Click "more" to watch the vid. Read more...

One of the great lyrics of 2008: "What don't kill ya make ya more strong" from Metallica's "Broken, Beat & Scarred."

It's actually a grammatically incorrect re-phrasing of the Friedrich Nietzsche axiom "That which does not kill us makes us stronger," but it gets the point across in colloquial terms and is as relevant today as it was when it was first spoken. Moreover, it's a slogan of optimism for anyone who feels abused, beaten down, undervalued or betrayed. Feel like sh-t today? Drink heavily tonight. Shake your hangover off tomorrow and come back the next day less naive and more informed, with a realistic perspective on your misfortune and a bit more insight on the selfish nature of mankind.
