We've loved these guys since we first heard their 2006 EP One by One, the Wicked Fall -- probably because we've always loved thrash and have always dug Warbringer's biggest influences, Exodus and Slayer. Click more to watch the video for "Sever Reality," which comes from their new album, Waking Into Nightmares, which was produced by Exodus guitarist Gary Holt. The clip was shot by Dave Brodsky, who has directed more cool videos than you can shake a B.C. Rich at. Read more...

Producer Dave Fortman (Mudvayne, Evanescence, Slipknot) began mixing the new Anthrax album, Worship Music, late last week in a New Orleans studio. The album, now set for a Fall release, is the band's first studio effort in six years and marks the recording debut of new lead vocalist Dan Nelson.

Commented Fortman, "In 1986, I saw two shows at Jed's in New Orleans that changed my life, one of those was Anthrax. Not long after, I packed up and headed out to make a career in music. Twenty-three years later, it's an absolute pleasure and an honor to work with these guys. They are and always have been one of the great forces in metal." Read more...

These dudes have been through the ringer since they first hit the airwaves with the single "Bodies" in 2001. The single was crucified after 911, their original singer died, they've been through two other vocalists, struggled through label hassles and endured multiple incidents of theft. But all the while, Drowning Pool have hung in there to rock the rafters. The band has just released their new video "Shame," which is featured on their recent greatest hits collection Lowest Common Denominator and originally appeared on the 2007 album Full Circle. Pirate metal certainly isn't a new phenomenon. We're guessing it dates back to around 1987 when German power metal band decided to cast their Satanic lyrics overboard and embark on a pirate voyage with their third album Under Jolly Rodger. But whatever its origins, it remains one of the silliest subgenre of metal and it seems to be gaining popularity. Alestorm, Blasphemy, Scurvy, Verbal Deception and Battleheart are just a handful of groups willing to walk the plank for a some rum-swilling riffs and lyrics about sailing the seven seas.

But New Jersey's Swashbuckle, whose second album Back to the Noose comes out July 24, just might have the coolest pirate-themed video. Click more to watch "Cruise Ship Terror."

In 1993 my band Prong released a record called Cleansing. It featured a song called "Snap Your Fingers ,Snap Your Neck". Who knew that 16 years later I would still be breaking my back doing Prong, and busting my ass, literally, on a weird diet called the "Master Cleanse." Read more...

Here's a video you won't be seeing this week on "Headbangers Ball," or any other week for that matter. The band is Wretched and their label, Victory, calls their video for "A Preservation of Immortality," "The Bloodiest Music Video Ever." Clearly, they're biased, but we have to admit Wretched's clip is pretty horrifying, and not in that it's-so-wretched-it-makes-me-shiver kind of way. The video is about a dude who runs over a little girl, and instead of being irresponsible and reporting his crime, he does the sensible thing. He cleans off his car and buries her body. Of corpse (typo intended), no good deed goes unpunished and the poor dude gets attacked by vines in a bloodbath of a scene that "Evil Dead" director Sam Raimi should probably contact his lawyers about. Queensryche are currently in the middle of a tour for their new album American Soldier. On May 15 they played New York's Nokia Theater and rocked the crowd with a set of songs that spanned their entire career. Click "more" to watch some pretty decent video of "Walk in the Shadows" from the 1986 album Rage For Order. Read more...

We first heard Abattoir on the 1983 compilation album Metal Massacre IV, which also featured Trouble, Lizzy Borden and Zoetrope. So much did we like the band's screechy song "Screams From the Grave," that we scurried out to purchase the band's 1985 debut Vicious Attack when it came out. Sadly, the band's two follow-ups kind of blew, and in the late '80s Abattoir herded themselves to the slaughter house. So, imagine our surprise when we discovered the band recently reunited to play the Keep it True Festival XII in Germany on April 24. We certainly hope there's more to come. Click "more" to watch Abbatoir perform "The Only Safe Place/Bring on the Damned" and "Game of Death." at the show.
