Hmmm, a Christian metal band that's obsessed with the tales of mobster Ma Barker, the matriarch the Barker/Karpis gang, which perpetrated acts of thievery and mayhem across the Midwest during the Great Depression. Go, on...Maylene and the Sons of Disaster aren't your normal lovers of God and government, reports MTV.com's "Metal File." Their entire second album, the conceptual, II, is a chronicle of Barker and her cuddly family shooting and blasting their way from town to town, and the album art even recreates the final gun battle that claimed her life. So, what's Godly about that? Well, frontman Dallas Taylor (ex-Underoath) claims Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are approaching the violence and carnage from the perspective of good Christians."We have a concept to our band that's really strange for Christians to grasp sometimes, because it's based on Ma Barker and her sons. It's basically us playing the roles of the sons, and our take on the whole thing is, if you live a life of wrongdoing and of hurting people, it's going to come back around on you - kind of like divine justice," Taylor told MTVnews. "This album's about the downfall of the family - about them coming to their deaths, and them narrating their own deaths."Interesting idea, and they've got some killer videos.
