They might have looked like high school kids waiting for their prom dates when they showed up at the Epiphone Revolver Golden Gods Awards dressed in tuxedos, but the second the members of Suicide Silence took the stage, they proved that they're more than the deathcore trend of the month -- far more. Vocalist Mitch Lucker is a frightening, captivating frontman, and while his bandmates do their share of entertaining flailing and headbanging, it's Lucker who almost single-handedly stole the show from all the other Golden Gods performers. See for yourself when Suicide Silence appears on the exclusive 60-minute telecast of the awards show Saturday night at midnight on MTV2, which will be followed by an hour long wrap-up hosted by XM Radio DJ Jose Mangin, which features performance outtakes and band interviews.
Lucker will also take part in a special edition of MTV2's "Headbangers Ball" tonight at midnight.
The show will be co-hosted by Suicide Silence and Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor, who deejayed right before the Golden Gods. Click "more" to watch our Golden Gods interview clips with Suicide Silence. Read more...

While numerous metal luminaries were walking the black carpet at the first annual Epiphone Revolver Golden Gods Awards, XFM Radio DJ Jose Mangin was hanging out backstage with metal god and goddess Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, talking to them about the awards show, the next Ozzfest and Mangin's interesting rendition of "La Bamba," which he performed in Los Angeles with Steel Panther the night before the awards ceremony. Before "Headbangers Ball" got its name, the show was called "Heavy Metal Mania" and was hosted for about two years by Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider. Then, the program changed to the "Ball," and Kevin Seal and Adam Curry were hosts for a brief time before Riki Rachtman took over in 1987 and Headbangers Ball" quickly became an institution.
For years, the show persevered with Rachtman alternately playing the roles of rocker, clown and interviewer. He accompanied Alice in Chains on a trip to a water part, in which singer Layne Staley fished in a public aquarium, members showed up in flippers and a duck life preserver and general mayhem ensued. On other programs, Rachtman went skydiving with Megadeth, partied with Pantera and stood bemused as Niravna frontman Kurt Cobain appeared for a "Headbangers Ball" interview in a full ball gown.
After the decline of metal, "Headbangers" went off the air for a while, starting in January 1995. But it was resurrected in 2003 on MTV2 and was hosted by Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta until early 2007. Along with the usual slew of headbanging favorites, Jasta brought in more underground acts, such as Pig Destroyer, Cattle Decapitation and Meshuggah.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Headbangers Ball," Snider, Rachtman and Jasta took part in a roundtable discussion hosted by Sirius radio programmer and personality Jose Mangin. Click "more" to check out some of the discussion and debate: Read more...
