Morgan Lander was 14 when she formed Kittie, her all-female metal group. Over ten years and four albums have passed since then, and Kittie are in the process of getting ready to release their fifth album In The Black. Check out below for some insight from Lander into the meaning of "Cut Throat", the first video from Black.

“Cut Throat” is about the harsh nature of humanity and how we can sometimes be so mean and unsympathetic to one another. It’s about not realizing that our selfish actions not only can hurt others, but it ends up coming back around on us if we are not careful. There are no true winners in this game we call life. This existence is one where only the strong survive and we of all people have seemingly become experts on the subject.

Regardless of the heavy nature of the song, we actually had an amazing and fairly relaxed time filming this video. The video was directed by David Brodsky in an old abandoned department store in Brooklyn. No Lights. No air conditioning and no water-- just a kick ass live performance from the band! The atmosphere made for a really intense, gritty, nasty vibe for the video, one that perfectly captures what this band is all about.

The make-up artist didn't really appreciate the fact that our make-up was sliding down our faces from the first note, but this isn't pretty or nice or dainty. This is metal and the “Cut Throat” video perfectly embodies that. – Morgan Lander/Kittie

Kittie has unveiled the logo for their new record label X of Infamy.
On Febuary 20th, the gals released their new album "Funeral for Yesterday" on the new X of Infamy imprint. Girl Power rulez!

Check out the video for "Funeral for Yesterday":

This week's Headbangers Ball will feature the debut of Kittie's new "Funeral For Yesterday" video. The clip was shot on February 5 in Long Island, New York.

"Besides it being probably one of the coldest days I can remember in years and the location not really having heat at all, it was a lot of fun," said the band on its Web site. "The location was perfect for the mood of the song."

"Funeral For Yesterday" is the title track of Kittie's new album, which came out February 20 and debuted at number 101 on the Billboard album chart. The album was recorded at Retromedia Studio in Red Bank, New Jersey and produced by Jack Ponti, who has previously worked with Doro Pesch, Bon Jovi and Alice Cooper.

Funeral For Yesterday marks the recording debuts for new guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Trish Doan. Before joining Kittie, McLeod played with Canadian girl band Sherry. After seeing her onstage, frontwoman Morgan Lander and drummer Mercedes Lander's dad — who manages Kittie — asked McLeod if she would audition for Kittie.
"They invited me to jam and they didn't ever tell me not to come back," McLeod told Revolver.( www.Revolvermag.com) "After a while, I just kind of figured I was in the band."
Finding a bassist was more difficult. After numerous auditions, they decided on Doan, who were initially reluctant to try out because of her family's background. "They thought my parents were hardcore Asian and would get mad if I quit school to join," the bassist said.
As it turned out, Doan had reservations of her own, largely because Kittie's last label failed to promote them. "I actually thought they broke up after their first release," she said.

Check out "Funeral For Yesterday" this weekend, but first watch "Into the Darkness."
