When it comes to The Human Abstract, just forget about labels. These guys are much more shredders or prog-rockers. most of all, they're really strong songwriters. The band's new album, Midheaven, abounds with technical musicianship, memorable hooks and emotional vocals that'll keep you thinking long after you've stopped listening.

"It's a concept album, and therefore within the analogy of each song, tells an overall story," says singer Nathan Ells. "[It's] the oldest story of all mankind -- one of unforeseen devastation,
overcoming all obstacles to recover from the setbacks, only to self-destruct our own society in the end."

This week, "Headbangers Ball" will debut the video for the first single, "Procession of the Fates." Click more to find out more from Ells and watch the Internet premiere. Read more...

Just minutes after watching the debut episode of the HBO horror series "True Blood" and the scene of a dude in a bar wearing an Alabama Thunderpussy t-shirt, we found out that guitarist Erik Larson had just issued a statement that the band was breaking up -- and it had nothing to do with "True Blood," which actually looks like it's gonna be a pretty cool series.

The show's set in the future at a time when the Japanese concoct a synthetic blood energy drink for vampires, and the monsters come out of hiding to become part of mainstream society. However, because of their past histories of biting and turning humans, the general population discriminates against them, and they become caught up in a struggle for equal rights.

The action in the first episode takes place in a small southern town where one of the vampires has decided to settle down. One day, he steps into the local watering hole and meets a hot blond waitress, who also happens to be able to hear what people are thinking. In addition, she's a kick-ass fighter, and when she finds out a scumbag drug dealing couple are planning to drain the vampire's blood and sell it on the black market (where it's highly desired because of its curative and intoxicating effects), the chick catches them in the act of attempted vampire slaying and chases them off (we wonder what Buffy would think of that!!!). By the end of the show, a romance appears to be brewing between the beauty and the beast. Oh, and there's an awesome plot element about vampire groupies who like to have sex with and be bitten by the fanged creatures.

Call Guy Kozowyk confrontational, he'll just smile. Call his band deathcore and he'll likely laugh and spit. The Red Chord frontman may have been one of the people to pioneer deathcore and his label Black Market Activities has signed deathcore acts like Animosity, but that doesn't mean the irascible singer is down with the cause. "I just want to publicly apologize to the world for having any part in influencing any [deathcore] garbage," he recently told Revolver magazine. Phil Demmel, lead guitarist for Machine Head, has issued a statement about passing out onstage in Bristow, Virginia on August 17 during the band's Rockstar Energy Mayhem set.

"I've suffered from episodes of Cardiogenic Syncope for the last 17 years or so," Demmel said. "But [doctors] ran a series of tests that came up inconclusive. I hadn't had it happen for awhile until last December in Italy, when I passed out roughly about the time my father passed away back in the States. The incident in Virginia felt similar to what has happened in the past. I have to thank my techs Alan, Brian and good friend Chief for catching me." Read more...

After three studio albums that were rhythmically straightforward, artistically experimental and, about 80 miles-per-hour short of thrash masterpieces, Metallica have (at least partially) returned to their roots. The band's upcoming album, Death Magnetic, features acrobatic time signatures, fierce thrash beats, downtuned guitars and enough cool crunchy guitar parts to fill Trivium's entire catalog. Here's clip two of four we're premiering from Hatebreed's new DVD "Live Dominance," which comes out September 2. "This is Now" was originally featured on the band's bruising 2003 album The Rise of Brutality. The video will receive its on-air premiere on "Headbangers Ball" on Saturday.

"This Is Now" was our set opener for the last bunch of tours on the Supremacy album cycle," adds frontman Jamey Jasta. "It's one of our favorite songs to play and the words are still very much a mantra for our everyday lives. It's crazy to think that this October will mark five years since the song first came out. Time really flies, which is why it’s important to appreciate the moment and that is what the song is about.

“This Is Now” always gets the crowd moving and singing, so it was only natural that we start off the Detroit show with it and try and set the pace for an action packed night. We also wanted the start of the DVD to really pack a punch. Every now and then I will go back and listen to the song and watch the video we shot and I am proud that we did something with a positive message; I get amped like I did when we first recorded it."
