When Metallica toured for their poorly received 2003 album St. Anger, the band only played two or three new songs. It was almost as if they were aware that the tunes weren't quite up to snuff and they'd be better off rocking the crowd with a set full of classics. They easily could have done the same with their Death Magnetic tour and swaggered away victorious. Instead, at the first of three sold-out New York area appearances, they played over 60 percent of the new album Death Magnetic and were rewarded with fist-in-the air sing-alongs from the crowd. Saturday's edition of "Headbangers Ball" was a special commemorative show to celebrate 20 years of headbanging madness. Because of this, the program featured mostly classic metal videos from the past two decades. So, this week's "Your Vote Counts" will draw from the other new videos and video premieres we aired last week, including Slipknot's "Dead Memories," Bleeding Through's "Death Anxiety" and "Down's "N.O.D. (Live)" from the bonus DVD on the new deluxe edition of Over the Under, plus a few other new videos we've debuted recently.
Click "more" to see the full list. The video with the most votes will return for next week's "Headbangers Ball." Voters chosing videos that aren't from the list below will be disqualified, as will voters who chose more than one entry. Remember, only one vote per IP address. Please include a comment with your selection, which may be published when we announce the winner. Voting runs through Wednesday at 3 p.m. Now, here's are you choices. Read more...

"This video is so simple," says The Sword frontman J.D. Cronise of "How Heavy This Axe." "It really warrants no explanation."
Kind of like the band's music, a molten amalgam of doom, thunder and war that draws equally from midtempo Black Sabbath and slow Metallica. The Sword have never denied that their tunes are influenced by songs from a past era (the above, plus Pentagram, Trouble, Cathedral and St. Vitus). Similarly, the new clip is a celebration of another culture and time.
"It's an homage to the psychedelic rock performance videos of the late '60s and early '70s," Cronise tells HeadbangersBlog.com. "It's just some dudes rocking out in front of some trippy backgrounds."
Well, there you go, and here you are (click "more" to view). Remember, "How Heavy This Axe" will premiere tonight at 10 p.m. on MTV2 during out week-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of "Headbangers Ball." Read more...

For the first time in the history of HeadbangersBlog.com we have a first place tie for "Your Vote Counts." The Sword's "Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians" and Underoath's "Desperate Times, Desperate Measures" garnered the exact same number of votes this week, which means that both will be returning for Saturday's edition of Headbangers Ball.

Hopefully, by now most of you have signed up to be part of the MTV Community. If you haven't, you might wanna get your ass in gear -- especially if you want to submit comments to HeadbangersBlog.com or take part in this week's "You Vote Counts" and help determine what video from the last "Headbangers Ball" returns for Saturday's show.
Just scroll to the bottom of the screen and sign up. It’s easy, and all submitted information is confidential. In addition to being able to post comments, MTV Community members will receive access to music and video premieres we can’t offer on the Blog. One thing about the sign-up sheet, though. People are getting a little tripped up by the box asking for the users “Profile URL.” So, here’s what to do.
Under "Profile URL" just type something to identify you — preferably some word that includes a couple numbers. That will then be attached to a long URL address that will be your private address for the site.
We now return to our regularly scheduled post -- "Your Vote Counts." On Saturday, we aired some pretty big premieres by Hatebreed, Underoath, The Sword and Carnifex. Choose one of them or someone else from the list below. The act with the most votes will win a return slot to Saturday's episode. As always, past winners are not eligible and neither are videos from old albums. In other words, only pick from our list. Voting runs between now and 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Click “more” to see the complete list.
